On inspection, the list of available free shiny toys is quite shiny indeed. They include an HTC Touch 2 (Windows Mobile?), an LG Arena KM900 and two T-Mobile phoens (the G1 and the Pulse - I could also pay £30 for a G2 but I think that would rather defeat the "because it's completely free" principle). I know one or two of you have one or two of these … any opines?

I have this suspicion that I may well be getting something that would make my iPod-touché redundant. This would cause me considerable discomfort.

So this weekend I did not go to SoS. Predominantly because my office offered me overtime this weekend, which monies I could then spend on the wedding, which is already the second most expensive thing I have ever bought.

But also because it was raining, because Ashy is a bog at the best of times, and because all of the hemlines on Emma's and Cor's kit are white.

Instead Vince treated me to dinner at the Fisherman's retreat, for Rich and Ben's birthday. It was lovely to see everyone, albeit briefly, and I now have plans for escaping the Lan Party by going to Ikea to buy food and then going to the zoo. Hurrah!
I drove home from the Fisherman's, which was quite scary in the dark and the rain as a total noob. Jenna drove behind me down the road, which made me quite self-conscious, but apparently she was impressed. Vince took the opportunity to drink Cider, which he will also no doubt be doing a lot of in December as well. I do kinda owe him for five years of lifts however, so I do not much mind drinking lemonade for the foreseeable future.

Apparently these days T-Mobile are not allowing people on their employee discount to take the line rental discount instead of a new handset. So I am going to have to allow them to press free toys into my grubby hands. (well, I don't have to, I could just allow the contract to lapse into periodic. But I would be betraying my Yorkshire heritage not to take advantage of their up-to-70-pounds-or-so free phone allowance / discount.)

In recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.

RSS feeds again

If you're addicted to xkcd_rss, icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.
